How to install your Delonghi Pinguino
Watch this short unboxing video showing how to get your De’Longhi Pinguino portable air conditioner set up correctly, ensuring quick and efficient cooling in your home.
There are two options to install your Pinguino portable air conditioner:
1. Using a window kit
This is the most popular way to use a portable air conditioner. You simply attach the hose and use a window kit to vent the warm air. When the weather cools or you want to move the air conditioner to another room, you simply remove the window kit and wheel the air conditioner away.
2. Permanent installation
Here, a portable air conditioner is permanently vented through a hole in the wall. This is ideal for offices and shops, where lots of hot equipment is used year-round and a continuous air conditioning solution is needed.
Installation Tips
- Window Kit Installation
With this option, it takes just a few moments to start cooling your environment. Your De’Longhi Pinguino will include a window kit, or you can purchase kits from your supplier that suit your type of window.
In the box, the EX100, AN112 Silent and AN97 Real Feel contain two window kits: one will suit sash windows, the other will suit double casement windows.
Installing your Pinguino with window kit for double casement windows
- Locate the exhaust hose and the two hose adaptors.
- Screw a hose adapter to one end of the air exhaust hose.
- Screw the other hose adaptor straight on to the hole for the exhaust hole on the back of the air conditioner.
- Now, screw the exhaust hose (the end without an adaptor already attached) in to the adaptor on the back of the appliance.
- On the other end of the hose, add the window outlet.
- Open your window slightly and set the window outlet in place.
Installing your Pinguino with Window Kit for Sash Windows
- Locate the exhaust hose and the two hose adaptors.
- Screw a hose adapter to one end of the air exhaust hose.
- Screw the other hose adaptor straight on to the hole for the exhaust hole on the back of the air conditioner.
- Now, screw the exhaust hose (the end without an adaptor already attached) in to the adaptor on the back of the appliance.
- Next you need to assemble the grille that will hold the hose in the sash window. Use the four screws supplied to assemble to grille.
- Open the window and place the grille on the ledge, ensuring it extends all the way across the width of the window.
- Use the two remaining screws to fix the grille in position.
- Insert the exhaust hose in the grille.
- You can remove the hose and cover the grille with the cap provided when the air conditioner is not in use.
- Permanent Installation
Follow the assembly of the hose as in steps 1-4 above. Then locate a good position for your hose. You will need to drill a hole of 134 mm in diameter through glass, a wooden door or the wall, so that it vents outside. The end of the exhaust hose will simply lodge itself securely in the hole.
Getting Started
The instruction manual for your De’Longhi Pinguino contains detailed information about how to use the features on your new portable air conditioner.
However, before you get started, it’s helpful to note the following:
-
Delivery, unboxing and moving. De’Longhi Pinguinos are only sold through premium retailers who use reputable delivery companies. We also add an extra protective sleeve to the packaging. Your air conditioner will be cared for throughout its journey to your home or workplace.
On arrival, it’s essential to maintain that care. Ideally, two people should move and unbox a De’Longhi Pinguino. Also, please transport your Pinguino upright or on one side.
-
Turning on for the first time. Once your Pinguino is out of the box and in its new home, please wait at least one hour before turning the air conditioner on for the first time. This is because every portable air conditioner contains a refrigerant, which can be disturbed during movement and needs to settle.
If your air conditioner has been carried upside down or roughly handled, you will need to wait 24 hours before you start the appliance for the first time. There is an internal safety mechanism that protects the appliance from turning on if the refrigerant is disturbed.
Finally, please only turn your air conditioner on and off using the remote control or button on the appliance. Simply pulling the plug out disables your Pinguino’s ability to provide a proper shut down and may shorten the life of your air conditioner.
Operating Tips
Here are some tips for operating your De’Longhi Pinguino portable air conditioner:
- Make the most of the timer function. Not only will this ensure your rooms are always cold when you want then to be, but it will save you money by using less electricity.
- Alter the fan speed according to the conditions. A maximum fan speed will cool your room rapidly and is perfect for when you first use a hot room. Thereafter, you can switch your fan to Auto so that it maintains an ideal temperature. If you want to sleep or work quietly, choose the Minimum setting.
- Choose a good temperature. Adults who are sitting still working or reading function best in rooms of about 22 degrees. If you’re walking about or exercising, then cooler rooms will be more comfortable. Resist the temptation to set the thermostat far below the outside temperature - instead aim for optimal comfort, not freezing rooms.
- Remember the dehumidifier. Even when you don’t need to cool, your Pinguino portable air condition can be used as powerful dehumidifier to dry laundry or remove damp. Your appliance still needs to have the exhaust hose connected and vented outside in dehumidifying mode. However, if you wish to run the fan in standalone mode, the exhaust hose is not necessary.
